Who doesn't love a hot cross bun, covered in butter, with a cup of tea to wash it down? Miffy certainly does, so she's made a recipe so you can make your very own. If you start practicing now, you'll be the best bun baker this Easter!
Before you start mixing, gather together all of your ingredients. You might want to ask an adult for a little bit of help finding everything.

8 Simple Steps For Easy Hot Cross Buns
Step 1: First things first, tip the flour into a bowl and stir in the salt, mixed spice and sugar. Once they are all evenly mixed, sprinkle in the cubes of butter.
Step 2: Now, it's time to get your hands messy! Rub in the butter with your fingertips. You'll know it's ready because it'll look a little bit like bread crumbs.

Step 3: When you're ready, stir in the dried fruit, then sprinkle over the yeast and stir in. Gently warm the milk so it is hot, but still cool enough to put your finger in for a couple of seconds. This is a little tricky so ask a grownup for help. Beat the milk together with the eggs, then pour it into the dried ingredients.
Step 4: Now, stir, stir, stir until you have a moist dough, then leave to soak for five mins. Take out of the bowl and cut the dough into eight equal pieces.
Step 5: Shape the dough into buns on a surface sprinkled with flour to stop them sticking. If you're feeling adventurous, why not make some hot cross bunnies?
Step 6: Spread out on a baking sheet and cover loosely with cling film.
Step 7: Now go and find your favourite Miffy book and make a cup of tea in your favourite Miffy mug as it's time to leave your buns in a warm place until they almost double in size. This will take 45 mins-1 hr 15 mins. Don't forget to preheat the oven to 220oC.
Step 8: When the buns have risen, it's time to make the crosses. Mix the flour with 2 tbsp water to make a paste. Pour into a plastic food bag and make a nick in one of the corners. Pipe crosses on top of each bun, just like the cross of Miffy's mouth!
Step 9: Bake for 12-15 mins until risen and golden. Trim the excess cross mixture from the buns and then brush all over with honey or golden syrup. The buns will keep fresh for a day, and best served with plenty of butter!
